.. john egan-- of insurancequotes.com.. which is owned by bank rate. good to have you back on the show. how many people take the time to actually do research for car insurance deals? our survey showed that roughly 20 percent of people had shopped for car insurance in the past year. and that's not a hugely surprising number but i would bet a lot more people should be in that number who are shopping for insurance because they may be leaving money on the table. how much money? it could be hundreds of dollars. everybody's circumstances are different but there could be discounts you're not getting or maybe you've got your auto and home insurance with separate companies and you should have it with one company and get a bundling discount that way. why do so few people bother to shop? insurance is a necessary thing but something that people don't really want to think too much about so alot of people just pay their monthly bill or their bill every six months and they don't put a lot of thought into could i be saving money? how do motorists go about shopping if they do look around for car insu

. negotiations between the who is and congress has stalled, john boehner calling it a stalemate. there are 30 days to go. charles, draw me a picture, how does this end? is staking out their positions, and really coming and enjoying the ring around the area where they are lease protecting where they want to advance, so the presidents and the democrats are basically outlining the increased revenue side of the spectrum. and the republicans are looking at it and saying come to the table and tell us what you're going to do in terms of cutting entitlements and spending. so both of them are now at this phase where it looks like they're at lagger heads. i happen to believe that we don't know what's happening behind the scenes. some of this can just be political posturing, we don't know the discussions that are being had in private and no one wants to be the person who blinks first. the president and democrats say we won, why should we blink first. and boehner is trying to protect his job. he has to keep his promise in congress. and that is going to take some political maneuvering. so i think on the s

john boehner came out of the meeting declaring himself disappointed with the white house's proposals. he says democrats have failed to offer a specific plan for cutting spending. and sources who have been in on the talks for months say even though in public the deal seems like it won't happen, in private it is starting to take shape. here's some of the details they have given politico.com. taxes will go up about $1.2 trillion, entitlement programs mainly medicare will be cut by no less than $400 billion. there will be at least $1.2 trillion in spending cuts and war cuts. >>> another point in the "fiscal cliff" discussion unemployment a new congressional budget office report showing americans have collected more than half a trillion dollars in federal jobless benefits in the last five years. >>> a battle over an oyster farm has ended. the u.s. interior secretary ken salazar is not renewing drake's bay's oyster company's lease which expires at the end of the month. he visited the farm along point reyes national seashore last week saying it should be returned to the wilderness for futur

twist in the ongoing story of software guru john mcafee. he's been on the run since he felt he was being accused of murdering his neighbor in belize. he long ago sold the company, but this morning the news was he had entered guatemala ill rely as he was on the -- illegally as he was on the run. he suffered two minor heart attacks after being arrested. he was carried out on a stretcher from an immigration service cottage where he had been detained after crossing illegally into guatemala. this is a police story, this is a business, i guess, interest story. you know, he was a -- the founder of a big company, lost a lot of the money he had made in the early days of that company and now in a bizarre move after having been accused possibly, or he thinks he's being accused of killing his neighbor in belize, he tried to get into adequate mall la, he's been hospitalized. reporters are descending now. >>> look at shares of starbucks, brewing up following the coffee chain's analyst meeting. the company announced plans, as you know, to open 3,000 stores in the next five years. that was yesterday. gr
